PCS receives AGC's National Safety Excellence Award
The American General Contractors held the 7th Annual Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) to recognize companies who have excellent safety and loss prevention programs achieved through management commitment, employee training and program innovation.

PCS was recently awarded the coveted Associated General Contractors of America Construction Safety Excellence Award at the AGC National Convention held in Palm Springs, California.  The dedication and commitment that Pacific Coast Steel employees have shown towards safety was instrumental in the receipt of this Award.

The process commences with a competition at each local chapter of AGC, approximately 80 such chapters nation wide.  The winner of the local chapter competition is then nominated for consideration for the National award.  However, not all nominees are selected.  Instead, a National committee decides which local contractors merit advancement to the National competition.

At the National level, the CSEA are judged by a panel of five that, this year, included judges from CAL OSHA, and The United States Army Corps of Engineers.  They carefully scrutinized the safety program of the nominees, the commitment of management to safety and the actual results obtained by the nominees.

PCS was not expected to win the Specialty Subcontractor category as no reinforcing steel subcontractor has ever won a first place award at the competition.  In fact, no reinforcing steel subcontractor has ever even been nominated for the National CSEA Award.  According to the United States Bureau of Statistics, reinforcing steel is the most dangerous construction trade, and the fourth most dangerous occupation in the United States.

Nonetheless, given its stellar safety program, as well as its commitment to safety, PCS won its category in the Specialty Subcontractor division of the competition.  It is in good company, as other winners in this year’s competition include Perini Building Co., Turner Construction Co., and Sundt Construction, Inc.
