About Us

We strive to be the best in our industry and take pride in going the extra mile for our customers to deliver their projects on time with exceptional quality construction. Established in 1992, Pacific Coast Steel has evolved into one of the largest and most capable reinforcing steel contractors in the United States. With a workforce of over 2250 employees, PCS is capable of servicing your reinforcing and structural steel needs.  We specialize in the fabrication and installation of reinforcing steel and post-tensioned products for projects including design/build, high rise construction, heavy engineering, civil, and public agency works of improvement. With the acquisition of Century Steel, Inc & Century Reinforcing, Inc. in 2008 we have expanded our capabilities to include Structural Steel in our Nevada, Utah & New Mexico markets.

The PCS Story

Eric B. Benson, President of Pacific Coast Steel founded the company in San Diego, California, in 1992.  The business initially focused on tilt up buildings and smaller structures. The quality of Pacific Coast Steel’s work led to strong ties with Southern California’s most respected General Contractors, and the loyalty of its’ workforce quickly translated into growth for Pacific Coast Steel.  With the opening of a large-scale fabrication plant in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area in 1998,  Pacific Coast Steel continued to flourish, constructing larger scale projects, including parking structures, bridges, reservoirs, water treatment plants, office buildings, schools, libraries and other municipal facilities.

In 2000, PCS opened a third fabrication plant and office in the Greater Los Angeles Area, serving Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino Counties. Teaming with reputable companies, such as Hensel Phelps, PCL Construction, DPR Construction, and Turner, PCS continued to focus on their core competencies of fabricating and installing reinforced steel and post-tensioned products.

In 2005, PCS’ Founder, Eric B. Benson, acquired a majority interest in Bay Area Reinforcing, Inc., a competitor with an impressive history and resume of projects throughout Northern California, including premier projects in San Francisco, such as the Bay Bridge project.

With the addition of a fourth fabrication plant and office in Napa, California, Pacific Coast Steel has the capacity to fabricate steel to serve all geographical regions of Northern, Central and Southern California, with recent projects in the areas of Mendocino, Sacramento, Santa Clara, San Francisco and San Luis Obispo Counties.

In October 2005, PCS opened a state-of-the-art fabrication facility in San Bernardino, capable of producing 10,000+ tons of steel per month. The  capabilities of the plant enhances steel delivery times to PCS’ customers, outpacing past production rates and delivering customers’ projects ahead of schedule.

In November 2006, PCS announced they agreed to enter into a Joint Venture with Gerdau Ameristeel. Gerdau Ameristeel is the second largest mini-mill steel producer in North America with annual manufacturing capacity of over 9.0 million tons of mill finished steel products. With the combined resources of both organizations, PCS can continue their strategic expansion through the Western States with a partner that shares PCS' vision and can support their growth.

In June 2007, PCS purchased the assets of Valley Placers, Inc., a reinforcing steel contractor in Las Vegas, Nevada. With the acquisition, PCS adds 110 field ironworkers, a steel fabrication facility and retail construction supply business. Valley Placers gives PCS the local presence to support growth and provide immediate access to a broader range of market opportunities.

In August 2007, PCS purchased the assets of D&R Steel, a reinforcing steel contractor near Phoenix, Arizona. D&R operates a reinforcing steel contracting business in Glendale, Arizona that services the greater Southern Arizona marketplace including Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson.  D&R has a fabrication facility with an annual capacity in excess of 30,000 tons per year. They currently contract for work in several market sectors, most notably commercial, highway and other public works of improvement.

In April 2008, PCS purchased the assets of Century Steel Inc. & Century Reinforcing, Inc., a reinforcing and structural steel contractor headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CSI acquisition will add over 800 field workers, 4 fabrication facilities, 7 offices and expand their market to include Utah, New Mexico, Idaho & Wyoming. The expansion is in line with our strategic plan to expand throughout the Western States. PCS' overall tonnage will increase to approximately 600,000 tons per year.

Since the inception of PCS, its’ core values and vision remained unchanged.   Pacific Coast Steel remains dedicated to its commitment to customer service, continuous improvement and employee satisfaction.  These are PCS’ values.
